⚡ It’s Day 1 of the #12DaysOfTurvy mini writing challenge over on Instagram! Yesterday the D2D crew met to discuss the latest Turvy and who would be joining in. Today the first envelope is drawn from the top hat – after a harrowing experience! Here we go!
“We’re here!” Flame announced from the hallway.
“We?” Tara’s eyebrows lifted.
Flame sauntered into the kitchen with David in tow. “David’s joining us.”
David held out a bottle. “Sorry to intrude.”
“The more the merrier,” Lucie said, taking the wine. “Make yourself at home.”
“So now we’re up to nine people?” Tara glanced at the pantry door as Sebastian St. Michel door traveled into Lucie’s home.
Sebastian’s gaze flitted over the group before landing on Lucie. He lifted his hand. “Pinot. Your favorite.” Crossing the kitchen, he slid the bottle into the counter wine rack, then scanned the dining room. “Is this everyone? No pencil d –”
“Who invited you, wannabe?” Flame straightened his shoulders.
“All right, here’s how we’re going to do this.” Lucie clapped her hands together. “Twelve prompts for nine people. Everyone picks at least once. Tara, Emily, and I will each pick twice. Sound good?”
“Should we wait for…?” Tara began but stopped when a pale-faced Emily door traveled back into the kitchen – alone.
Emily strode past her friend and pivoted into the dining room. After helping herself to a glass of punch, she sank into a chair.
Tara followed. “Everything okay, Em? Where’s Templeton?”
“It’s fine, everything’s fine. Who’s picking from the hat first? Me? Okay, me.” Emily reached into the top hat, withdrew an envelope, and ripped it open. Inside, on a folded piece of paper, someone had written: Memorable Weather. Emily laughed, crumpling the paper and chucking it onto the table. “Well, that’s interesting timing.”
The others filed into the dining room, Flame elbowing Sebastian when he cut in front of him.
“What’s going on?” Lucie chose the chair next to Emily.
“I’ll tell you about some memorable weather that’s going on right now. Templeton is standing in the middle of a lightning storm – that’s what I walked into when I followed him. The ground was shaking when I arrived by way of a shed door.” Emily shuddered.
“Holy crap, is he okay?” Tara asked.
“Oh, he’s fine. He’s the one causing the lightning.” Emily turned her attention to Sebastian and shook her head. “But your cabin isn’t looking too good.”
