🎃 It’s Day 1 of the #BeyondSpooky22 writing challenge over on Instagram hosted by author Elle Hartford! My own D2D crew – comprised of Door to Door Paranormal Mystery and Bellerose Witchline characters are joining in.
Today’s prompt? Set the Scene.
🎬 Noon, late October, Lucie Bellerose’s townhouse, Clover District, Matar… Here we go!
“I just think it’s odd,” Emily Swift said to Rabbit. “We were supposed to meet here at 11, then we were going out to lunch. She wasn’t here when I arrived.”
Rabbit’s fingers flew over the keyboard of his network phone. “Her car is still parked in the garage. The network hasn’t seen her either.” He looked up, his face lined with worry. “She hasn’t answered my texts since yesterday. I don’t like this.”
The two stood in Lucie’s kitchen. Emily had door traveled in as planned, and Rabbit dropped by to check on Lucie’s network phone. He’d attempted a remote update, but when that failed, he made a beeline for Lucie’s townhouse. He couldn’t shake the bad feeling crawling over his shoulders.
“Is she with Templeton?”
“He’s not in the Empire right now,” Rabbit muttered. “He’s still hunting Richardson.”
Emily scowled. “I’d like to get my hands on that man, too.”
“Not in your condition.” Rabbit’s phone buzzed. “Big Rabbit and his crew are combing through the neighborhood. Nothing yet.”
“Can’t you track her phone?”
“That’s part of the problem,” he answered. “I need to apply the network update. Lucie’s energy has taken on a new quality, and it’s almost as if she keeps scrambling her own phone and draining the battery. Her energy is…I dunno. There’s something different.”
“Interesting. I wonder what that means?” Emily pawed through the random papers left on Lucie’s counter, noting a flyer for a downtown Matar nightclub called Blue Tattoo. She held it up, grimacing. “Well, well, well – lookie here. Perhaps we should pay *him* a visit? If something’s wrong, he’s probably involved.”
Rabbit’s eyes grew dark. “Let’s go.”
To be continued in the next post…

What’s This Mean for Door to Door & Bellerose Witchline Characters?
I’ll be dropping Emily Swift, Lucie Bellerose, and others from my crazy crew into a story matching the #BeyondSpooky “prompt of the day” from the challenge.
If you ARE on Instagram, make sure you’re following me at https://www.instagram.com/WriterTracyBrown/ to see the posts there! But again, as long as you check out my blog list or my Writer Tracy Brown page every day, you can read all the short stories without Instagram. 🙂
