🧚 It’s Day 1 of the #FairyTaleMe22 writing challenge on Instagram! Yesterday, Door to Door’s Emily Swift called together top D2D characters and announced a new game for the crew. She’s also taking over author T.L. Brown’s Instagram feed. Today’s prompt? “What’s your favorite fairy tale?”
Emily set a plate of wraps down on the table. “Half are vegetarian. There’s bottled water and pop. No alcohol.”
“Why?” Lucie looked up. She’d been skimming the challenge prompts.
“Every time we add alcohol, things get out of control.” Emily swiped the clipboard from Lucie. “Okay, first question. What is your favorite fairy tale?”
“I don’t think alcohol is the reason why things take a turn for the worst during these challenges,” Tara interjected.
Emily ignored her. “Who wants to go first? I will! Let’s see, my favorite fairy tale?” She twisted her lips to the side.
“Why are you going first if you don’t have an answer prepared?” Templeton asked.
“I think this was one of Brown’s categories on her character profiles.” Emily bent over to dig into her bag. “Let me get my laptop. Rabbit hacked her computer and sent me a copy.”
Templeton’s mouth pressed into a thin line. He looked to Lucie. “Why am I here?”
“Didn’t you want to come?” She studied him, her hand lifting to touch his arm. She pulled it back before her fingers made contact.
He opened his mouth to answer.
“Got it!” Emily announced. She tapped on her keyboard. “Brown thinks my favorite tale is Alice in Wonderland. Eh, I guess. And Tara’s is Sleeping Beauty. Really?”
“I wanted to be Maleficent when I was little.”
“Believable. Rabbit’s is Snow White? Seriously? Wait, there’s a link to a music video. Gah! I’ll never be able to unsee that.” Emily shuddered. “Okay, moving on. Big Rabbit. Huh. Robin Hood? Yeah, sure. Why not? And Templeton’s next. Oh, that figures. We both like Alice in Wonderland.”
“Brown’s wrong,” Templeton replied.
“Then what is it?” Emily raised her head.
Templeton cleared his throat. “Jack and the Beanstalk.”
“Because Jack wins in the end?” Lucie smiled. He gave her a curt nod.
Emily clicked a tab on her screen. “Lucie, it says yours is The Little Mermaid?”
“No, mine is –” Lucie stopped, her gaze drifting past the others. She winced, shaking her head.
Grinning, Sebastian stood leaning against the door jamb. He rubbed the tip of his tongue over a pointed canine. “Somebody call for the Big Bad Wolf?”
🧚This challenge runs from August 1 – 13! Stay tuned as tomorrow’s prompt is: “What’s your fairy tale setting?” (Now posted! Click here!)
