It’s day 1 of the #RockTheTurvy writing challenge over on Instagram! Emily Swift and crew are taking off on an epic road trip. Won’t you come join them? Here we go!
Tune: Saving Grace, by Tom Petty
“This is going to be awesome!” Emily waved the itinerary at her friends… and Templeton. “Look at all of the places we’re headed!”
Tara snagged the sheet and scanned it. “This is a great road trip TL Brown set-up.”
“She’s feeling guilty for what she put Emily through in Doors Wide Open,” Lucie added. She stole the sheet from Tara. “Let’s see. Savannah Georgia Ghost Tour; Mardi Gras in New Orleans; San Gabriel Mountains; Vegas; Appalachian Trail; New York City; Siesta Keys. Nice.”
A roomy six-seater SUV pulled up and Big Rabbit hopped out. He held out the keys to Emily with an apologetic look to the rest of the group. “I’m under orders.”
“Excellent! I planned on driving anyway.” Emily pushed past Big Rabbit and began to play with the seat settings. “How do I move this forward?”
“I call shotgun.” Tara climbed into the passenger’s front seat.
“Who talked you into letting Emily drive?” Rabbit crossed his arms and frowned at his brethren.
Beep-beep! Emily bopped the car horn. “Let’s get a move on it!”
“I will kill her before the end of this trip,” Templeton muttered as he bent his tall frame into the third row. Rabbit followed Lucie into the second set of seats.
“Everyone buckled up?” Emily called over her shoulder as she fiddled with the stereo. “Driver picks the music. How about a little Highway Companion? I love this album.” The first track, Saving Grace, filled the air and she shifted into drive, singing.
Lucie pulled a pair of earplugs out of her purse.
“Drive carefully!” Big Rabbit waved as they pulled out of the parking lot and disappeared down the road. He grinned. This adventure was going to be epic.
…Tune in tomorrow as the road trip crew is faced with… a DEAD BODY. (That post is now available… click here!)

Readers – Not on Instagram?
That’s okay! I’ll be sharing my Instagram posts daily here on my blogsite AND daily on Facebook at Writer Tracy Brown so you can read them there, too. Make sure you check for a new story every day in February!
What’s This Mean for Door to Door Characters? I’ll be dropping Emily Swift and crew into a story, a scene, a situation, etc. matching the “prompt of the day” from the challenge. Writing prompts include: finding a dead body, having a house party, celebrating New Year’s Eve, bungee jumping, breaking down on a deserted road, getting a first kiss – and much more!
What makes the #RockTheTurvy extra special is that I’ll also be picking a song to go with the scene.
If you ARE on Instagram, make sure you’re following me at https://www.instagram.com/WriterTracyBrown/ to see the posts there! But again, as long as you check out my blog list or my Writer Tracy Brown page every day, you can read all the short stories without Instagram. 🙂
