💗It’s Day 1 of the #TopsyTurvyRelationships writing challenge over on Instagram! Yesterday I gave my crew special instructions. Today Emily Swift is the first character to hear a bell chime 🔔. Here we go!
Emily finished reading the message from T.L. Brown and tossed it on the dining room table. Figures, another Turvy. When she texted her best friend Tara to complain, she heard a 🔔 chime.
“Really?” she protested to the empty room. Leaving her top hat behind, she reached for the closest door. Before she had time to raise her own door travel energy, she was yanked on through.
Dazed, she stood inside a familiar coffee house in Kincaid. Live music played in the other room – a solo acoustic guitar. Tara appeared at her side as she followed the music.
“I’m so glad you could make it!” Tara tugged on Emily’s sleeve. “I’ve wanted to introduce you to him for a while now.”
“You met someone?” Emily asked.
“Not someone for me,” Tara grinned. “For YOU. Come on.” She led Emily by her arm into the other room.
“Me? I don’t get it. What’s going on?” Emily peeked past Tara as the guitarist’s familiar voice reached her ears.
“Sit down. I ordered us lattes. Jack’s almost done with his set, then he’s going to join us.” Tara dropped her coat and scarf on a chair.
Oh, I get it, Emily thought, leaning to the side and peering around Tara. She was getting to relive the moment she’d met Jack. Wow. This was such a nice surprise from Brown. Maybe the author was turning over a new leaf. Maybe the Turvy *would* be fun.
“Lattes for Tara!” the barista called.
Tara grabbed the mugs from the counter and jockeyed back and forth around the other patrons. She set the steaming lattes on the table. “You’re going to love him. He’s super-nice, brainy, teaches English, plays guitar, and doesn’t do drama.” Tara sipped her drink, then bounced her eyebrows up and down. “And he’s a good kisser.”
“Wha–what? Wait, how do you know this?” Emily’s gaze zipped back to her friend.
“Oops, that’s a Doors Wide Open reveal, isn’t it? My bad.” Tara waved her hand and caught the eye of the cute guitarist making his way through the crowd.
The man reached their table and held out a hand. “Hi. I’m Jack Greene. I’ve heard a lot about you.”
Emily smiled, putting her hand in his. “Emily Swift. Are you up for an adventure?”
