It’s day 1 of the #TopsyTurvyTVTour over on Instagram! Emily Swift is getting ready for her debut. She’s beyond excited to play the famous TV sleuth, Jessica Fletcher. Here we go…
(This is a derivative work based on the TV show Murder, She Wrote – episode Paint Me a Murder.)
Emily sat at her dressing table.
While she was a bit nervous about a new Topsy Turvy spell, she was excited to play the role of JB Fletcher.
A tap came on her door. “Five minutes, Ms. Swift!”
“Coming!” Emily adjusted her short blond wig and stepped out into the hall. Rabbit stood waiting and Emily launched herself into his arms. “Rabbit! What are you doing here? Are you in this episode?”
He laughed as he peeled off her hug. “Nope. I’m part of the film crew.” He offered his arm.
As they strolled, they passed another dressing room door. The nameplate read: Lydia McKay Swift.
“Seriously? My mother’s here?”
“Guest star. She’s already on the set. You have your script? This way. The scene starts with you getting ready for bed and noticing a fire through your window. You’re on a Mediterranean island at the home of a famous artist…”
…Emily (JB Fletcher 😊) tightened the belt on her satin robe as she lifted her head. Through the window she could see the flames rising from the little building where Diego Santana painted.
“Fire! Fire!” She roused the other guests as she hurried outside.
📺 COMMERCIAL BREAK – The fire isn’t always intentional! For a little flammable fun, check out Jennifer Brasington-Crowley’s short story, A Very Raven Christmas. (Available on Amazon.) 📺
Fade in…
“Get the hose!” A voice yelled.
“The paintings!” Another voice shouted.
Through the doorway, Emily saw a woman with strawberry blond hair lying unconscious on the floor of the artist’s burning studio.
“Help!” she cried. “She’s in the fire!”
A man wearing a checkered bathrobe rushed past. Templeton winced as he fought against the heat. He scooped Lydia up into his arms and carried her outside to safety. The ceiling behind him collapsed.
The Salesman knelt, placing Lydia on the ground. The older woman coughed.
Emily sank to her knees, touching her mother’s face as she stirred. Emily lifted her chin, her head slightly tilting as she gazed somberly into the camera…
… Tune in tomorrow as Emily and her best friend Tara find themselves in an episode of Midsomer Murders! (That scene is now posted! Click here!)
