🗣️ It’s Day 1 of the #TopsyTurvyWhatsMyLine writing challenge! Yesterday the D2D crew learned they would be attending a carnival during this latest challenge. Today’s dialogue prompt is: “How long have I been unconscious?”
Here we go!
“How long have I been unconscious?” Emily’s voice wobbled as Rabbit and Tara pulled her to her feet. They’d only been at the carnival for 10 minutes before she complained of the heat and crumpled to the ground.
Rabbit held her steady. “Maybe a minute. You fainted. Let’s get you into some shade.”
“I’ll find water,” Big Rabbit called over his shoulder, muscling his way through the crowd.
“There.” Lucie nodded toward the dining tent as one of the tables emptied. “Templeton, can you grab her bag?”
From several feet away, Templeton studied Emily as her friends guided her toward the tent. His pale eyes lost most of their color as he tracked her. “What?”
Lucie lifted an eyebrow. “Seeing something?”
“What?” Templeton repeated absently. His eyes finally left Emily and he stared at Lucie.
Lucie blew out a short breath and retrieved Emily’s shoulder bag. “Is there something wrong with Emily?”
“I’m not a physician.” He crossed his arms over his chest. He was dressed in a dark blue polo shirt and khakis. For a moment, Lucie considered how these Turvys allowed him to ‘dress down’ a bit. She liked the relaxed version of him – even though she knew it was only the clothes and not the man.
“Never mind,” she replied before following the others.
Under the tent, Big Rabbit handed Emily a bottle of cool water. “Really, I’m fine,” she assured everyone, taking a sip. “I was just a little hot.” She began to rise from her chair.
Rabbit placed his rough hands on her shoulders, forcing her to stay seated. “Oh, no you don’t. Finish the water.”
“I’m fine,” she huffed. “Besides, I haven’t been on a roller coaster in two years and I’m not missing out today.”
“You’re not going on a roller coaster,” Templeton announced. “You can ride the merry-go-round instead.”
“Yeah, no. I’m going on the coaster.”
“Emily,” Templeton leaned in, the tip of his nose an inch from hers. “No roller coaster for you today. Do you understand me?”
Emily’s eyes narrowed. “I don’t have to listen to you. You can go –”
Rabbit cleared his throat, interrupting her. “I know, let’s all start out on something less wild. Who’s up for the Ferris wheel?”
🗣️ This mini challenge runs from June 21 – 27! Stay tuned as tomorrow the dialogue prompt is: “Who were you just talking to?” (That post is now available – click here!)
