🎶It’s Day 1 of the #WIPSoundtrack2023 writing challenge over on Instagram hosted by D. Allyson Howlett!
I participated in last year’s challenge, and I loved it. This is one of the fun ones!
Music plays a massive role in my writing and in my life. Songs listened to when I’m writing often end up on the fantasy soundtrack I create for each one of my books. (You can catch soundtracks for all my published books here on my website if you search for “soundtrack.”)
Right now, I have a pretty huge playlist going for my current work in progress (WIP). When I’m writing, I often think: If this were a movie, and music was playing in the background, what would it be?
Well, let’s find out!

Day 1 Prompt: Makes you think.
Song choice: If She Knew What She Wants, by The Bangles
Listen on YouTube: https://youtu.be/mu_pNeqAQ-U
Scene: Lucie Bellerose and Rabbit are at a summer festival of concerts, relaxing in the sun on a blanket overlooking a field leading up to the venue’s stage.
…Rabbit’s cheeks flushed, and I realized it wasn’t just from the sun. “I don’t mean that in a weird way.”
We considered each other. “You’re not referring to my perfume anymore, are you?”
Rabbit shook his head. “Can we not?”
“You opened the door on this big reveal,” I said, shifting and sitting on the blanket. I pulled my knees up and rested my chin on them. “Tell me. I’m excited we still have secrets to share with each other.”
“Oh, you think we’ve told each other everything?” Rabbit’s awkwardness melted a bit. “You’re saying you’ve shared *everything* about Lucie Bellerose with me?”
I let my gaze drift past him. “No, but I think we’ve been pretty open with who we are and what we can do.” I could feel him studying me.
“I can’t even begin to know all the magic making up who you are,” he said softly. “It’s not like I can see your witchline…”

Readers – Not on Instagram?
That’s okay! I’ll be sharing my Instagram posts daily here on my blog site AND daily on Facebook at Writer Tracy Brown, so you can read them there, too. Make sure you check for a new sneak peek snippet every day from May 15 through May 28!
What’s This Mean for Bellerose Witchline Characters?
I’ll be sharing scenes featuring Lucie Bellerose, Templeton, Rabbit, Sebastian St. Michel, and the rest of the drama-filled crew from my current WIP, picking a song and matching the “prompt of the day” from the challenge.
If you ARE on Instagram, make sure you’re following me at https://www.instagram.com/WriterTracyBrown/ to see the posts there! But again, as long as you check out my blog list or my Writer Tracy Brown page every day, you can read all the short stories without Instagram. 🙂
