It’s day 10 of the #RockTheTurvy writing challenge over on Instagram! Yesterday the D2D crew picked up a hitchhiker AND went backstage to meet a rock star. Today we’re taking a break from the D2D crew’s road trip. From book one in the Bellerose Witchline series, edited for space with spoilers removed…
To the tune of: Can’t Find My Way Home, by Blind Faith.
“…Templeton won’t understand why you left, Lucie. He’ll never admit it, but he took it personally. He thinks you left because of him.”
“I figured that.” I blew out a breath. Templeton was partially right. “I’ll deal with it when the time comes.”
Rabbit laughed, but it wasn’t a friendly sound. “You believe he doesn’t know you’re back in the Empire?”
“Already? No, not unless you sent a message to him.” I lifted a shoulder. “I mean, I won’t hide from him, but I’m not exactly going to send up a smoke signal.”
“Funny you should put it that way,” Rabbit began. “What makes you think Templeton wouldn’t have set something up here to let him know when you were back?”
I sucked in a breath. That little pop. “Son of a b*tch.”
“The ward. I dropped it when I got home and heard a tiny noise – nothing I’d normally expect.” I pressed my lips together.
“He spelled your ward?” A hint of a smile appeared.
“He must have. Dammit!” I waved my hands uselessly. “I recognized his energy trail all over it. He’s repeatedly tried to door travel into my home while I’ve been gone.”
“I haven’t seen him in a while, but I know he was worried – not that he said as much,” Rabbit shrugged. “He was probably hoping to find a clue as to your whereabouts.”
“It was none of his business,” I argued. I did not need this drama. This is why I left.
“Good luck with that. I guarantee Templeton thinks you are his business, especially after *spoiler*.” My friend pulled his knit hat on over his curls. “Listen. Keep the phone on you. Don’t use it in public and don’t tell anyone about it. The network won’t be happy if they find out I gave it to you. They’ll shut it down.”
“Got it.” I touched his arm when he put his hand on the doorknob. “I’m sorry I made you worry, Rabbit.”
“You’re home safe,” he answered, failing to make eye contact with me. “That’s all I care about now…”
…Tune in tomorrow as one of the Door to Door characters finds an enemy tied to a tree… (And that post is now live! Check it out!)

Readers – Not on Instagram?
That’s okay! I’ll be sharing my Instagram posts daily here on my blogsite AND daily on Facebook at Writer Tracy Brown so you can read them there, too. Make sure you check for a new story every day in February!
What’s This Mean for Door to Door Characters? I’ll be dropping Emily Swift and crew into a story, a scene, a situation, etc. matching the “prompt of the day” from the challenge. Writing prompts include: finding a dead body, having a house party, celebrating New Year’s Eve, bungee jumping, breaking down on a deserted road, getting a first kiss – and much more!
What makes the #RockTheTurvy extra special is that I’ll also be picking a song to go with the scene.
If you ARE on Instagram, make sure you’re following me at https://www.instagram.com/WriterTracyBrown/ to see the posts there! But again, as long as you check out my blog list or my Writer Tracy Brown page every day, you can read all the short stories without Instagram. 🙂
