💗It’s Day 10 of the #TopsyTurvyRelationships writing challenge over on Instagram! Yesterday Rabbit revealed a bad haircut. Today it’s Freaky Friday, and two characters swap bodies! Here we go!
Rabbit reached for a screwdriver.
🔔Chime + swooshing sound.
Rabbit blinked against the blast of air, jolting when his eyes opened. Gone was the cold workshop with its odor of discarded oil. Instead, he sat in a familiar café with the rich scent of coffee teasing his nose. He slowly swiveled his head to the left, catching a reflection in the window.
Lucie Bellerose’s face looked back at him.
Confused, Rabbit rubbed his fingers across his mouth and stared at the reflection. Lucie’s hand remained on his face. “Turvy magic,” he whispered.
He twisted, spying Lucie’s purse and digging inside for the network phone he’d given her. He pulled out the device and snarled at the dead battery. Grabbing his coat – Lucie’s coat – and stumbling out of Coffee Cove, he made a beeline for her home.
“Stupid boots,” he grumbled, struggling with the heels on the wet sidewalk. At the front door, he reached into his – her! – purse for keys. Inside, he called out. Nothing. He headed upstairs.
The spare was empty, and Rabbit next checked Lucie’s bedroom. He paused in front of the cheval mirror and examined his reflection. He was Lucie. Or, more accurately, he was *inside* Lucie.
His gaze roamed up and down a body of soft curves hidden under a red sweater dress. Rabbit’s hand lifted, and he caught a lock of auburn hair between his – her! – thumb and forefinger. His attention drifted lower.
“No!” He stepped back, dropping his hand. Flexing his fingers in frustration, he turned away.
Downstairs, Rabbit sat on a kitchen barstool. Hands folded on the counter, he waited.
Thirty minutes later, the front door opened.
“Rabbit?” He heard his own voice call.
He didn’t move.
“Rabbit?” His body asked as he walked by himself and stood on the other side of the counter. “It’s Lucie.”
He nodded.
“It’s Turvy magic,” said Lucie-as-Rabbit. “Weird, but kind of fun. I spent the last hour walking around as you.”
He nodded, swallowing.
Lucie-as-Rabbit cocked an eyebrow. “Rabbit?”
He refused to make eye contact.
“Rabbit, did you peek?” She laughed.
“No!” His head jerked up. “Did you?”
Lucie-as-Rabbit smiled.😉
