🎲 It’s Day 11 of the #12DaysOfTurvy mini writing challenge over on Instagram! Yesterday the crew sat down to a holiday meal. Today characters roll the dice in a game of Yahtzee. Here we go!
“We could play Scrabble? Teams?” Tara suggested hopefully.
“Great idea. Dirty Word Scrabble. You’re on my team.” Sebastian patted the empty seat next to him.
“Forget it,” she scoffed. “I’d rather –”
“Euchre teams?” Rabbit suggested.
“No,” Emily replied. “How about Yahtzee?”
Templeton looked longingly at the closest door.
“Don’t even think about it,” Lucie warned before pulling out the game box from underneath the buffet. Rabbit grabbed pencils from a drawer in the kitchen.
The next hour was relatively drama free – a true December miracle.
“I’m at my limit,” Emily said as she dropped the dice into the cup. “Time to go.”
“I’ll see you tomorrow at the train station,” Tara said.
“Spending the night in Matar?” Sebastian asked, his eyes still on his scorecard.
“Yes, and I’m not going anywhere with you,” Tara snapped.
Sebastian tossed his pencil on the table. “I wasn’t inviting you.”
“Good, because you clearly don’t understand rejection.”
“Have fun with your puppets, bookworm.” Sebastian rolled his eyes, standing and grabbing his jacket from the back of the chair.
Tara flipped him off before he turned. He laughed, then nodded once to Lucie. “You know where to find me, wayward witch.” Ignoring Templeton’s glare, Sebastian left the dining room, door traveling through the pantry door to wherever he’d been keeping himself lately.
“Good riddance,” Tara sniffed.
“And on that note,” Emily began, giving Lucie a side hug. “I’ll see you later.”
“Where’s your top hat,” Templeton frowned.
Emily threw her hands up as she disappeared into the kitchen. “You’re not the boss of me, Templeton!”
“She needs to follow the rules until the Court’s ready to let her get away with breaking them,” Templeton muttered.
Rabbit also stood to leave. “I’d better get going before Big Rabbit conscripts me for dishes.”
“I’ll walk you to the door,” Lucie said, touching his arm. She followed him to the front of the house. “You’re welcome to stay on the couch.”
Rabbit’s smile brought out the tiny laugh lines around his eyes. “Not tonight.” He leaned forward and kissed her forehead before slipping out the front door…
