✉ It’s Day 12 – the last day! – of the #12DaysOfTurvy mini writing challenge over on Instagram! Yesterday the crew played Yahtzee. Today, clean-up and a surprise delivery. Here we go!
“Do you want to go for a walk? Get a coffee at Coffee Cove?” Lucie touched Templeton’s shoulder.
He’d joined the remaining members of the D2D crew in the kitchen. He nodded, a corner of his mouth lifting. “Let me finish helping in here.”
“Go,” Big Rabbit’s girlfriend shooed them. “We’re almost done.”
Templeton pulled a dress coat from Lucie’s hall closet.
Lucie tilted her head. “When did you…?”
Templeton straightened his collar. “I do a lot of things off-page.”
“Hmm,” Lucie raised an eyebrow. “You’ll have to tell me about these mysterious activities.”
“During our walk,” Templeton replied, holding Lucie’s coat so she could slip into it. He waited for her to put on her mittens, then took her by the hand and led her out the door.
Flame watched them leave. “Do you think he loves her?”
Big Rabbit paused. “I think he’s trying to figure it out. Love can make you vulnerable.”
“And Lucie?”
“I think Lucie has a lot of love to give,” Big Rabbit shrugged. Before he could elaborate, someone knocked on the front door.
“Now what?” Tara glanced down the hall.
Flame opened the door and was greeted by a man in a top hat. “Delivery for a Tara Parker-Jones.”
“That’s me,” Tara said, appearing at Flame’s side and accepting an envelope.
The Salesman touched the brim of his hat before turning away. Tara shut the door behind him.
Flame held up an index finger, produced a claw, and neatly sliced the envelope open.
“Party trick?” Tara pulled out a note.
“What is it?” Flame asked.
Tara read silently:
Inside you’ll find 4 passes to the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria. I hear the Jim Henson Exhibition is popular. No 5-star beds nearby, so I booked a 2-bedroom suite at the Baccarat in Manhattan for 3 nights this coming weekend. See the concierge desk for your car and driver. Plane ticket to follow.
Don’t worry, I have plans and won’t crash your puppet party.
Merry whatever, bookworm.
S.
Smiling, Tara tucked the paper back into the envelope. He was such an ass. “Oh, it’s nothing – just a message from a friend. Hey, do you and David want to meet me in New York City this weekend? I’m thinking about taking a little trip.”
