🧚 It’s Day 13 – the LAST day – of the #FairyTaleMe22 writing challenge on Instagram! Yesterday, the D2D crew picked books to use as a guide as they traveled through their fairy tale. Today the prompt asks: The ending – is it a happily ever after, or a happily for now, or something else entirely?
“I like happy endings overall,” said Emily. “But it’s okay if not everything works out.”
“Agreed,” replied Tara.
“I think you got a happy ending.” Lucie smiled at her friend. “The Door to Door series wraps up beautifully.”
“Doors Wide Open was the best of the three,” Emily nodded. “Guys?”
Rabbit ran a hand over the top of his head, his fingers threading through dark curls. He blew out a breath. “I think stories should go where they go – even if it hurts in the end.”
Lucie pulled on her bottom lip while she studied him. Rabbit noticed, giving her a tiny smile.
“I like happy endings. We need more of them.” Big Rabbit glanced down at his phone as he rose from his chair. “Gotta go. It’s been fun.”
“Templeton?” Emily prompted.
“What?”
Emily sighed. “Happily ever after or not? Or something else?”
The surly Salesman rubbed a fingertip across his chin. “Brown seems to prefer ‘happily for now’ – a theme she repeats in both series. I don’t expect that to change.”
“But what do YOU prefer?” Emily pushed.
“Like Rabbit, I believe stories should unfold naturally without a prescribed happy or sad ending,” Templeton answered.
“That’s fair. Lucie, what about you? Will you get a happy ending?” Tara’s brows knitted together.
Lucie’s gaze bounced from Rabbit to Templeton. “I don’t know. The second book will be released soon, but I’m not sure what Brown has planned for book three. I do know that like life, not everyone gets a happy ending.”
Sebastian chose that moment to return. His eyebrows raised as he leaned against the door jamb, smirking. ”Why is everyone so grim? What, is Templeton in charge of the party now?”
Lucie shook her head at him, but smiled softly. She turned back to Tara. “I’d expect some shocking surprises, though. In the end, we’ll all just have to wait and see.”
