💗It’s Day 13 of the #TopsyTurvyRelationships writing challenge over on Instagram! Yesterday Tara received some unexpected comforting. Today Lucie Bellerose covers for her naughty shapeshifter, Flame. Here we go!
Lucie waited at the counter of Coffee Cove.

“Oh, come on,” she groaned. “I’m not even properly caffeinated.
Resigned to another Turvy adventure, she turned. When her fingertips touched the shop’s doorknob, she was whisked away.
Stepping into her own kitchen, she found Flame. His blond head down, he busily typed into a phone.
“Where did you get that? Don’t tell me Rabbit gave you a network device?”
He raised his hand. “Brown had a friend spell a smartphone so I could use Instagram in the Empire. I’m DM’ing my new friends.”
“Wait, aren’t you supposed to start your new job today?” Lucie frowned.
“About that,” he winced. “I need a favor.”
“No.”
“I have a good excuse!”
“No, Flame.”
“I have to go with D. to –”
“No.”
*45 minutes later*
“Hi, I’m Lucie Bellerose. Is it possible to talk to Jackie Tayburn?” Lucie asked. “I’m here on behalf of Flame – I mean Marcus.”
“Sure.” The receptionist picked up her phone and pressed a button. She murmured Lucie’s name into the handset, then looked up. “She’ll see you.”
“Thanks.” Lucie walked into Tayburn’s office, offering an apologetic smile.
“You’re here for Marcus?” Tayburn rose from behind her desk, circling to the front. “He was supposed to be here at 9am.”
“I know. He was called away unexpectedly and asked me to come by to explain.”
“You’re his mother?” The woman cocked her head to the side.
“No! I’m his –”
“Girlfriend?” Tayburn’s shrewd eyes flicked up and down.
Lucie pulled a face. “God, no. I’m his…landlady. And he needs this job. Could he start tomorrow? I promise he’ll be here.”
“You know I created this position as a favor to *Spoiler.*”
“I know. And we all appreciate it. Tell you what. I don’t know if you had any work planned for him on his first day, but I’m willing to pitch in and do it. For free.”
Tayburn motioned for Lucie to follow. “This way.”
Down the hall, the two entered a conference room packed with boxes of flyers and envelopes.
“This will take you all day,” Tayburn explained. “All envelopes need to be stuffed.”
“Great,” Lucie replied weakly, sinking into a chair. Flame was going to pay for this one.
