It’s day 14 of the #TopsyTurvyTVTour over on Instagram! Yesterday Emily Swift and crew held an awkward staff meeting. Today catering has arrived on the set – along with a few extra characters. Here we go…
(This is a derivative work based on the TV program The Addams Family.)
Dadada-dunt! Snap snap!
“Catering is here,” announced Rabbit as he walked across the set. “Vegetarian lunch puffs from The Sweet Spot. Get ‘em while you can!” The crew swarmed the trays holding delectable, boxed lunches from the best bakery in Vue.
“I just love Rabbits!” Tuesday bounced on the balls of her feet and pressed her pudgy hands together. She encouraged the crew to take as much as they wanted.
“Tuesday!” Emily embraced her friend, dropping a kiss on the older woman’s forehead. “You’re catering today? All the way up here in Matar?”
“I received an order.” She pulled a stained piece of paper from her apron pocket. “It said the casting director requested my services personally.”
Emily reviewed the slip, pursing her lips. The casting director’s signature was impossible to read. “Well, I’m thrilled to see you. How did you get everything here?”
“My cousin Wednesday,” Tuesday said, motioning for a tall, dour woman to step forward. “She drives a 1933 Packard V-12. It’s perfect for transporting puffs.”
Wednesday wore a black dress with a white collar buttoned tightly at her throat. Her dark hair was plaited into two thin braids, and her face was as pale as a mortician’s. She glowered at Emily before turning to Tuesday. “I finished setting out the boxes and cutlery. The knives are nice. Perhaps I can use one for playing autopsy later?”
Tuesday nodded. “I don’t see why not.”

Fade in… Yelps and squeals rang out across the set. A disembodied hand skittered across the stage on its fingers, weaving in and out of the mix of actors and Rabbits.
“Shoot it!” someone yelled.
Tara hurried forward, waving her arms. “No – it’s okay! I think that’s just Thing!”
“The hell it is,” grumbled Rabbit as he loaded a shotgun and took aim. “Thing lives in a box. This is Bruce Campbell’s hand – it escaped from the Evil Dead II reboot set again!”
… Tune in tomorrow as Door to Door characters are guests on a popular TV chat show! (That “episode” of The Graham Norton Show is now available! Click here!)
Readers – Not on Instagram?
That’s okay! I’ll be sharing my Instagram posts daily here on my blogsite AND daily on Facebook at Writer Tracy Brown so you can read them there, too. Make sure you check for a new story every day in October!
What I’ll be doing: I’ll be dropping Emily Swift and crew into a story, a scene, a situation, etc. matching the “TV show of the day” prompt from this challenge. In those posts you can read about Door to Door Paranormal Mystery Characters trying to make it through shows like: The X-Files, Scooby Doo, Bewitched, Stranger Things, Friends, The Twilight Zone, The Office, Law and Order, Miami Vice, Game of Thrones, The X-Factor – and many more!
If you ARE on Instagram, make sure you’re following me at https://www.instagram.com/WriterTracyBrown/ to see the posts there! But again, as long as you check out my blog list or my Writer Tracy Brown page every day, you can read all the short stories without Instagram. 🙂
