It’s day 19 of the #RockTheTurvy writing challenge over on Instagram! Yesterday they almost kissed. Today I’m taking a break from the D2D crew’s road trip to give you a sneak peek from the first book in the Bellerose Witchline series.
To the tune of: Her Strut, by Bob Seger.
Lucie Bellerose is back in Matar…
Back inside my warm home – thankfully the power grid was still at full force – I clicked on the radio and dug into my few bags. The beat lifted my spirits and I bopped around the kitchen while I put my groceries away. During a particularly saucy rhythm I lifted my hands high, swinging my hips and twirling. I spun around and came face-to-face with a tall, scowling man standing in front of my pantry door. His arms were crossed and his light blue eyes grew paler as he glared at me. My arms fell to my sides as I stopped dancing.
Ever since he supported me when I used the Crimson Stone, I could see the trails and tendrils of his door travel energy. The waves were a royal blue. I never told him I could see this remarkable display, and even now I marveled at the brilliant color swirling around his legs. His travel into my home was silent and I didn’t hear anything when he entered my kitchen.
Well, I did drop the wards for him.

“Advance notice of your plans to visit would be appreciated.” I crossed my arms, too.
“Really?” Templeton’s upper lip curled. “Advance notice of my plans? Why in the world would I offer you the courtesy? You weren’t exactly forthcoming with your plans.”
I knew this confrontation was coming, but I had hoped to be home for more than 12 hours before we stood in the same room. I lifted a hand. “Look, there’s nothing I can say that’s going to make any difference here, so why don’t you just go ahead with your rant and get it over with?”
He snorted, dropping his arms, his hands landing on his hips. He glanced around the kitchen before making eye contact again. “You are a piece of work…”
Tune in tomorrow as someone’s car breaks down on a deserted road at night… (That post is now available. Find it here!)

Readers – Not on Instagram?
That’s okay! I’ll be sharing my Instagram posts daily here on my blogsite AND daily on Facebook at Writer Tracy Brown so you can read them there, too. Make sure you check for a new story every day in February!
What’s This Mean for Door to Door Characters? I’ll be dropping Emily Swift and crew into a story, a scene, a situation, etc. matching the “prompt of the day” from the challenge. Writing prompts include: finding a dead body, having a house party, celebrating New Year’s Eve, bungee jumping, breaking down on a deserted road, getting a first kiss – and much more!
What makes the #RockTheTurvy extra special is that I’ll also be picking a song to go with the scene.
If you ARE on Instagram, make sure you’re following me at https://www.instagram.com/WriterTracyBrown/ to see the posts there! But again, as long as you check out my blog list or my Writer Tracy Brown page every day, you can read all the short stories without Instagram. 🙂
