It’s day 2 of the #RockTheTurvy writing challenge over on Instagram! Yesterday Emily Swift and crew began an epic road trip. Today they find… a DEAD BODY. Yikes!
To the tune of: Funeralopolis, by Electric Wizard
“What I want to know is how we’re going to hit all these great places in 28 days?” Tara asked as she reviewed the itinerary for a second time.
“Check the bottom,” Emily instructed as she leaned over to look at the paper. “See the note from TL Brown?”
“Eyes on the road!” Rabbit admonished. He looked at Lucie, his face pale. “I should be driving.”
“Anyone but Emily should be driving.” Lucie peeked over her shoulder at Templeton. He was hidden behind a newspaper. “Except for maybe him. Can he even drive?”
“I can drive.” Templeton’s irritated voice floated over the newspaper.
“The note on the itinerary said to check the glove compartment. I found a letter.” Tara waved it at them before she began to read it aloud. “Dear D2D Peeps.”
“I hate it when Brown calls us that,” Lucie sighed.
“I thought all of you deserved a bit of fun, so I asked an old friend of mine to cast a little spell called #RockTheTurvy. As long as the tunes are good, the spell will allow you to easily travel to all these fun places in February. Have a great time and pick up hitchhikers!” Tara finished reading and raised her head. “I think she meant DON’T pick up hitchhikers, right?”
BadaBUMP! The SUV bounced up and down and Emily swore. Cringing, she pulled over to the side of the road. She glanced in the rearview mirror. “Oopsie?”
“What just happened?” Tara asked.
“I hit something,” Emily grimaced as she unbuckled her seatbelt and slid out of the vehicle. The others followed. They were met with a grim scene.
“You hit a rabbit?” Rabbit blanched.
Lucie gestured to the remaining fluff and fur. “It looks like the poor thing died instantly from… from Emily.”
“I’m really sorry,” Emily apologized.
Rabbit held out his hand. “Keys.”
Emily passed the SUV’s keys over to him. “Go easy on our ears.”
As the crew hit the road for a second time, Rabbit turned up the music to 11.
…Tune in tomorrow as the crew grab dinner in a roadside Karaoke bar. Who gets up on stage? (That post is now live – click here, it’s a GOOD one!)

Readers – Not on Instagram?
That’s okay! I’ll be sharing my Instagram posts daily here on my blogsite AND daily on Facebook at Writer Tracy Brown so you can read them there, too. Make sure you check for a new story every day in February!
What’s This Mean for Door to Door Characters? I’ll be dropping Emily Swift and crew into a story, a scene, a situation, etc. matching the “prompt of the day” from the challenge. Writing prompts include: finding a dead body, having a house party, celebrating New Year’s Eve, bungee jumping, breaking down on a deserted road, getting a first kiss – and much more!
What makes the #RockTheTurvy extra special is that I’ll also be picking a song to go with the scene.
If you ARE on Instagram, make sure you’re following me at https://www.instagram.com/WriterTracyBrown/ to see the posts there! But again, as long as you check out my blog list or my Writer Tracy Brown page every day, you can read all the short stories without Instagram. 🙂
