🎩 It’s Day 2 of the #TurvyTruthOrDare Instagram writing challenge! Yesterday Rabbit did a little streaking. Today Templeton faces a troubling Dare card… here we go!
“That was great,” Rabbit said, pulling his shirt on over his head. “Who has day 2?”
No one answered at first, but then Templeton sighed. “I do.”
Rabbit pointed at the Dare deck. “Since you’ll probably refuse to answer a Truth question.”
Templeton pulled a card from the Dare deck. He balked.
Emily peeked at it. “OMG.”
Tara plucked the card from Templeton’s hand and read it aloud. “Stand on a street corner for 10 minutes holding a Free Hugs sign.”
Lucie retrieved a 20”X15” white placard with black writing from one of the high-top tables. She held it up. “That explains this.”
Templeton pinched the bridge of his nose. “I used to have a quiet life.”
“Come on,” Lucie said softly. She held out her hand. “I’ll go with you.”
Templeton hesitated. She wiggled her fingers at him. He gave in, putting his hand in hers. She gave it a squeeze and led him outside.
“Templeton giving hugs to strangers. I’ve *got* to see this.” Emily trailed after them.
“What are you doing?” Tara asked Rabbit. His fingers were a blur on his phone.
Lucie walked Templeton to the corner. He held the sign in front of his chest, staring at the sidewalk.
“No one wants to hug a sour puss,” mocked Sebastian. “Give us a smile, #Temptington.”
The sound of wheels screeching to a halt at the curb caused everyone to look. Big Rabbit jumped from the Sprinter van and slid the door open. Out popped:
- Author Saffron Amatti with Clara Jenkins
- Author Jennifer Brasington-Crowley with Stanzie Butler
- …and Author Shari T. Mitchell with Marnie Reilly
Big Rabbit’s girlfriend climbed from the passenger seat.
“Everyone line up,” Rabbit directed. He shyly waved at Jennifer Brasington-Crowley. “Emily, Tara, and Lucie. Get in line, too. Big Rabbit? You and the missus, in the line.”
“What is going on?” Templeton scowled.
“Turvy magic,” Rabbit replied. He held up his phone. The screen displayed a timer. “Twelve of us – minus Sebastian. Ten minutes, 50 seconds per hug.”
Templeton studied the line. Clara smiled at him. Tara gave him a thumbs up.
“Fine,” he said. “Let’s get this over with.”
Lucie got in line, giving Rabbit a side hug. “You’re a good man, Rabbit,” she whispered.
Tune in tomorrow to learn who’s up next and pulling the first Truth card… (That post is now up! Click here to learn who gets a Truth card and what mayhem follows.)
