It’s day 22 of the #RockTheTurvy writing challenge over on Instagram! Yesterday Rabbit and Lucie had a brief moment while driving through the night. Today, we’re joining Emily in a post-party cleanup.
To the tune of: (You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party), by Beastie Boys.
“We’ve got to get this place cleaned up before Jack gets back in town.” Emily walked around her house, filling a big garbage bag with trash. She looked under a blanket on the couch. “Hi, Rabbit.”
“No.” He rolled over, pulling the blanket over his head.
“Last night was a blast. I haven’t had that much fun in years.” Lucie gathered half a dozen empty bottles, looking around. “Things got a little wild after the poker game.”
“That Clara Jenkins chick cleaned house!” Emily laughed. “Did you see Templeton? He was PO’d AND impressed. She took at least 100 bucks off him.”
“Who was she here with?”
“Lucas Rathbone. He’s the one who sees ghosts. I met him during the #TopsyTurvyTVTour. Nice guy.”
“The best part was when Raven Xerces showed up to ask for directions.” Lucie’s cheeks pinked. “I was so embarrassed I didn’t recognize him right away. But seriously, why would he be here?”
“Well, you had a lot of wine by then.” Emily mimed tipping a glass. “That can be your excuse. Did you at least get his autograph?”
“No, I didn’t want to be all fan-girly.” Lucie winced.
“Who were the two guys with him?”
Lucie abandoned the clean-up to join Rabbit under the blanket. She grabbed the TV remote. “Matt somebody and a guy who looked like…” Lucie’s eyes strayed to the man standing at the bottom of the stairs. She pointed. “Like Hugh Jackman.”
Tara peeked around the corner into the living room. “Oh, you guys are up. Um, this is… Hugh.”
“Hi, Hugh.” Emily and Lucie replied in unison.
“Hugh’s leaving.”
“Bye, Hugh,” came the chorus. Hugh kissed the top of Tara’s head before scooting out the front door. Tara climbed under the blanket with Lucie and Rabbit.
Lucie lifted the TV remote. “Everyone be quiet. The latest episode of Hillside Academy is on, and I’m dying to find out if Emily and Will finally get together!”
Tune in tomorrow as we’re heading to the zoo… Who does Rabbit see? (Find out here!)

Readers – Not on Instagram?
That’s okay! I’ll be sharing my Instagram posts daily here on my blogsite AND daily on Facebook at Writer Tracy Brown so you can read them there, too. Make sure you check for a new story every day in February!
What’s This Mean for Door to Door Characters? I’ll be dropping Emily Swift and crew into a story, a scene, a situation, etc. matching the “prompt of the day” from the challenge. Writing prompts include: finding a dead body, having a house party, celebrating New Year’s Eve, bungee jumping, breaking down on a deserted road, getting a first kiss – and much more!
What makes the #RockTheTurvy extra special is that I’ll also be picking a song to go with the scene.
If you ARE on Instagram, make sure you’re following me at https://www.instagram.com/WriterTracyBrown/ to see the posts there! But again, as long as you check out my blog list or my Writer Tracy Brown page every day, you can read all the short stories without Instagram. 🙂
