It’s day 23 of the #TopsyTurvyTVTour over on Instagram! Yesterday Tara Parker-Jones chatted with a familiar ghost. Today Emily Swift goes snooping in the casting director’s office. What does she find? Here we go…
(This is a derivative work VERY LOOSELY based on the TV program I Love Lucy.)
(Apologies, the original plan was for something fun. Unlike I Love Lucy, this is a bit dark/ominous.)
“No. It’s too obvious.” Emily pouted, tossing the script on the dressing room table. Her eyes cut to Lucie. “YOU should play Lucy Ricardo. YOUR name is Lucie.”
“But I can sing and have never stuffed my face full of chocolate.” Lucie leaned forward. “I saw you at Tara’s birthday party last summer. That was a massive amount of cake you crammed into your mouth.”
Tara finished applying her lipstick and rubbed her lips together. “It was quite the display.”
“Take it up with the casting director,” Lucie added.
Arms crossed, Emily fumed for another minute before huffing and leaving the dressing room. Destination: the casting director’s office.
The hall was deserted when Emily tapped on the director’s door. No answer. She pushed it open to find an empty office. She strolled over to the desk, noting the black leather jacket tossed casually across the chair. She sniffed. The heady cologne hanging in the air was familiar, but she couldn’t place it.
A folder marked headshots sat on the desk. Inside, color photos were taken of all of them from a distance – even Templeton. It was clear from the pictures that none of them were aware they were being photographed.
What the hell was going on? Emily wondered. She moved the leather jacket aside to sit and again, she caught the scent of cologne. She flipped through the photos a second time. Templeton said the Instagram Word Charmers weren’t behind the Topsy Turvy experience this time. So, who was? And to what end?
Emily pulled open the desk drawer. Pens and pencils were evenly placed in the narrow tray beside a thumb drive. Emily eyeballed it, wondering what she might find. She glanced up once, then pocketed it.
The desk phone suddenly rang, making her jump. It was time to go. At the door she paused and took one last look at the room. That cologne, she thought, her hand touching her throat. Why is it so familiar?
… Tune in tomorrow as Emily finds herself in the disturbing world of David Lynch. (Now posted – click here!)
Readers – Not on Instagram?
That’s okay! I’ll be sharing my Instagram posts daily here on my blogsite AND daily on Facebook at Writer Tracy Brown so you can read them there, too. Make sure you check for a new story every day in October!
What I’ll be doing: I’ll be dropping Emily Swift and crew into a story, a scene, a situation, etc. matching the “TV show of the day” prompt from this challenge.
