It’s day 25 of the #TopsyTurvyBookTour over on Instagram! Yesterday Emily, Rabbit, and Tara dealt with stormy weather and a white whale. Today we learn more about who is casting that Topsy Turvy Spell and causing trouble for Door to Door characters. Here we go…
(This is a derivative work based on Alexandre Dumas’ The Three Musketeers.)
Note: In my first book (Door to Door), one of my characters references the three Musketeers over dinner. Today I’m beginning with THAT passage. Emily begins:
“…I want to know if he saw Templeton’s face when he was attacked.” I took a bite of my turkey sub, mentally running through the questions I wanted to ask. I swallowed. “And I want to know if something is missing. I think Templeton took something. I want to find out if Blackstone knows what was stolen and why. I think it’s time Blackstone told me everything.”
“Told us everything,” Jack corrected.
“The three Musketeers,” Tara said around a mouthful.
And now…
“The three Musketeers,” Emily mumbled, wincing. Oh, her head hurt! She rolled onto her side as a gentle hand stroked her forehead.
“Emily, hey. You’re dreaming.” Tara spoke into her ear. “Wake up. Come on. Open your eyes.”
Emily grimaced and opened one eye. “What happened?”
“Whale, random piece of flying wood, you, bam.” Tara was concise.
“And I’m back in bed?” Emily shifted into a seated position, folding her legs to the side and pressing her hand into the pillow.
“Rabbit got us below deck and into the room before –”
“Before?”
Tara flipped her hand, the palm facing up. “I think we capsized. Apparently, we landed here instead of the bottom of the ocean.”
“And we’re…?” Emily examined the room. Everything was beige, from the carpet to the curtains, to the walls. “Oh.”
“Yup. Bedrest Inn again,” Tara replied as Rabbit opened the room’s door and poked his head inside.
“Great, she’s awake. Got an update from the network,” he told them. “This Topsy Turvy spell is being cast by a group of Word Charmers in a land called Instagram. I say we figure out how to go there and put a stop to this.”
“Word Charmers?” Emily repeated.
“Writers,” Rabbit clarified. “Troublesome lot.”
“I’m game for an adventure,” Tara said. “Em?”
Emily nodded, holding up a hand to meet Tara’s high five. “Let’s do this! We’ll be the new three musketeers.”
…stay tuned as tomorrow Door to Door characters are celebrating Christmas and making a plan in A Christmas Carol. (Now posted – read by clicking here.) 🙂
