It’s day 26 of the #RockTheTurvy writing challenge over on Instagram! Yesterday D2D characters looked for a ghost in the graveyard. Today someone goes bungee jumping.
To the tune of: Blitzkrieg Bop, by Ramones.
“I’ve always wanted to go bungee jumping.” Emily practically vibrated across the parking lot as the group left the hour-long ‘training.’ After the session, Emily was one of the first people to sign up to hurl herself off a bridge located in the San Gabriel Mountains. A special platform was attached to the center of the bridge, ready for daredevils.
“Really?” Emily asked the others as the bungee guys helped her into the harness that would hold her suspended – after a 100-foot drop – over the river below. “No one else has the guts?”
“I don’t want to spill mine,” Tara said.
“Heights aren’t my thing,” replied Rabbit.
“Did it before,” added Lucie.
Bored, Templeton stared off into the distance over the gorge.
Emily gave her friends a smug look before strutting to the center of the bridge. The others followed. After some last-minute instructions, Emily was in position. She’d opted for the Superman Front Dive. She stood there as the bungee guys called out: 5, 4, 3, 2, 1… BUNGEE!
Emily remained on the platform.
“That’s okay,” called out one of the men who’d helped Emily into her harness. “Let’s try this again. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1… BUNGEE!”
Emily grimaced and looked over her shoulder.
“Take a deep breath,” another bungee guy encouraged.
Fifteen minutes later…
“Okay,” the first bungee guy began yet again. “Ready, Emily? 5, 4, 3, 2, 1… BUNGEE!”
Emily didn’t budge an inch. Everyone groaned.
“Oh, you’ve got to be kidding me,” Templeton huffed. He slipped past the others, marching over to Emily and giving her a hard shove.
“Sonofa!” The cry rose from under the bridge as Emily plunged toward the river below. The rubber inside the bungee cords stretched then jerked Emily upward. “AAAaaaaahhh! Temmmpletonnn! You assssssssssss! Aaaaa!” She bounced around before finally hanging pathetically at the end of the swaying bungee.
Templeton turned and faced the others. He paused to pick a piece of lint from his sleeve. “Admit it. Every single one of you wanted to do that.”
Tune in tomorrow as one of the characters has a Disney moment… (Enjoy that Disney moment here!)

Readers – Not on Instagram?
That’s okay! I’ll be sharing my Instagram posts daily here on my blogsite AND daily on Facebook at Writer Tracy Brown so you can read them there, too. Make sure you check for a new story every day in February!
What’s This Mean for Door to Door Characters? I’ll be dropping Emily Swift and crew into a story, a scene, a situation, etc. matching the “prompt of the day” from the challenge. Writing prompts include: finding a dead body, having a house party, celebrating New Year’s Eve, bungee jumping, breaking down on a deserted road, getting a first kiss – and much more!
What makes the #RockTheTurvy extra special is that I’ll also be picking a song to go with the scene.
If you ARE on Instagram, make sure you’re following me at https://www.instagram.com/WriterTracyBrown/ to see the posts there! But again, as long as you check out my blog list or my Writer Tracy Brown page every day, you can read all the short stories without Instagram. 🙂
