It’s day 26 of the #TopsyTurvyBookTour over on Instagram! Yesterday Emily, Rabbit, and Tara landed back at Bedrest Inn – but wait! When they walk outside, they’re actually in Emily’s hometown of Kincaid, NY. And… it’s snowing? In August? Here we go…
(This is a derivative work based on Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol.)
Emily, Tara, and Rabbit left the Bedrest Inn.
Stepping outside, they were shocked to find snow. They were even more surprised to be standing on a sidewalk in front of Anne Lace’s café, The Daily Brew Too. Christmas decorations graced the windows.
“We’re… home!” Tara announced. She swung her head back and forth. “Wait, why is it snowing in August?”
“What I want to know,” Emily began, “is why Templeton is walking toward us with a see-through Anne.”
Anne’s misty arm was linked through Templeton’s. “Merry Christmas, everyone! Isn’t this wonderful?”
“Um, Anne? We can see through you.” Emily waved her finger up and down.
She looked down. “It’s a bit unusual. But I think it’ll wear off eventually. No matter. Templeton is helping me with Christmas dinner. I have a huge goose prepared –plus a tofurky for Rabbit.”
“Goose, huh?” Emily finally addressed Templeton. “Why not tur–”
“Dickens, Emily. It’s A Christmas Carol. We’re having goose.” He huffed and led Anne to the door leading upstairs to her apartment. The rest followed.
Anne’s apartment overflowed with greenery and good smells. The table held a feast.
“Sit, sit!” she fussed, hovering. “Don’t let it get cold.”
Emily spooned mashed potatoes onto her plate. “Rabbit discovered who is behind this Topsy Turvy spell.”
Rabbit nodded as he dug into his dinner. “Word Charmers in a place called Instagram.”
“Writers,” Templeton muttered as carved the goose. “That figures.”
“I think I’m going to have the tofurky,” Emily said, wrinkling her nose at the roasted bird.
“Have you ever tried goose?” Templeton questioned.
“No.”
He put a slice on her plate and turned to Rabbit. “Where is this Instagram? I’m not familiar with it.”
“It seems to be like the Empire – it’s a concept populated by people across the world,” Rabbit explained. “But if we can find a door in…”
“Then I can find a way to put an end to this,” Templeton replied.
Emily finished chewing a bite of goose. “WE can put an end to this. I’m coming with you.”
…uh oh, Word Charmers! Looks like you might have some visitors. Stay tuned as tomorrow Door to Door characters figure out the way into Instagram. (Hehehe! Now posted – click here!) 🙂
