It’s day 28 of the #TopsyTurvyBookTour over on Instagram! Yesterday Emily and Templeton managed to get inside the land of Instagram to find those spell-casting Word Charmers. Today Tara, Anne, and Lucie are casting a little magic of their own. Here we go…
(This is a derivative work based on Shakespeare’s MacBeth.)
“I hate waiting around and not being able to help,” Tara grumped after Emily followed Templeton to the land of Instagram.
“What makes you think we can’t?” asked Anne. “Lucie?”
“Already on it.” Lucie browsed Anne’s bookshelves. “Got it. ‘Potions for Women: The Cauldron’s Best.’”
“You might want to stay here,” Tara warned Rabbit as she followed the two weird women into Anne’s kitchen. He gave her the thumbs up as the door to the kitchen swung shut and went back to texting the network.
Anne pulled a short, fat cauldron from a low cupboard and scooted it into the center of the kitchen. She then lit four white candles and placed them in points around the kitchen. “We won’t need a fire to heat the cauldron,” she told the others.
“Not for this,” agreed Lucie. She flipped a page. “Here’s one. ‘Help your friend keep safe across the miles.’”
Anne looked over Lucie’s shoulder and read. “Yes, we can work with this. We’ll just amend some lines. I have basil leaves for flying, and cinnamon and garlic for protection. I even have a crow’s feather.” She pulled it from her apron. “How’s that for luck? Tara, hand me the bottle of dish soap.”
The ingredients gathered and distributed, Anne set the soap bottle inside the cauldron. The trio formed a circle around it. Anne nodded to Tara and she sprinkled in the basil. Lucie followed with the cinnamon and garlic powders. Anne released the crow’s feather into the cauldron. When it touched the bottom, she cast:
Double, double, work no trouble;
Candles burn, we’ll charm a bubble.
Guard Emily’s hardihood,
Now the charm is firm and good.
Anne dipped her hand into the cauldron and squeezed the bottle. A large soap bubble burst out, spinning into the air. Anne stepped over to the kitchen window and opened it wide. The three watched the bubble float out into the evening air…
…stay tuned! Tomorrow we’re back to Emily and Templeton. They’re boarding the Orient Express in a bid to get back home. (Now posted! Click here to read!) 🙂
