🎄 It’s Day 3 of the #12DaysOfTurvy mini writing challenge over on Instagram! Yesterday Sebastian revealed a softer side – sort of. Today Rabbit and Lucie are caught whispering in the kitchen. Here we go!
“You’ve got to tell him,” Rabbit said in a low voice as he added Irish whiskey to Lucie’s coffee. “The longer you wait, the worse it’ll be.”
“I’m waiting for the right time,” Lucie whispered back. The two stood in the kitchen while the others attempted to wrestle the big holiday tree into the tiny living room.
“He deserves to know.”
“Who deserves to know what?” Flame swept into the kitchen. “Ooh, secrets! I’m good at keeping them. What’s going on?”
“Nothing,” Lucie replied. She handed Flame the top hat with the remaining envelopes. “We’ll move the Turvy into the living room. Take this with you.”
“You’ll tell me when I’m plying you later with copious amounts of wine,” Flame winked. “And we’re not all going to fit in the front room.”
“I don’t care.” Lucie pointed to the hall.
“She’s grumpy today,” Flame said to Rabbit.
He shrugged. “I don’t expect it to get any better.”
“Well, don’t hide in the kitchen forever.” Flame snagged a gingerbread cookie from a tray on the counter. “I think Tara’s about ready to smack Sebastian.” He disappeared into the hall.
Lucie twisted her lips to the side. “Remember how easy it was in the summer?”
Rabbit offered a small smile. “It was a good summer, Lucie.”
They studied each other for a long moment. Lucie finally gestured to the device in Rabbit’s hand. “Is Templeton answering you?”
“Not yet, but he’ll come back soon.” Rabbit shoved the network phone into his pocket. “Eventually it’ll dawn on him that Sebastian’s here and he’s not. Then he’ll breeze in through The Pantry Express.”
“I guess,” Lucie sighed. She grabbed her coffee mug and started to leave the kitchen.
Rabbit’s hand landed on the back of her neck as the two walked, and he squeezed reassuringly. “It’ll all work out the way it’s supposed to in the end.”
Lucie blinked slowly. “I guess we’ll just have to hope for the best.”
At the other end of the hall, someone knocked on the front door.
🎄 This mini challenge runs from December 1 – 12! Stay tuned as tomorrow the next prompt is: Quirky Traditions. (That post is now available – click here!)
