🧚 It’s Day 3 of the #FairyTaleMe22 writing challenge on Instagram! Yesterday, Door to Door characters discussed where their fairy tale should take place – and then the conversation erupted in chaos. (Of course!) Today’s prompt? “What’s your fairy tale role?” (Ex: princess, witch, the fool? Never discount a fool!)
“What role would you play in your fairy tale?” Big Rabbit read the next prompt after everyone settled down.
Lucie had left the table and now sat at the bar. Tara poured her a glass of wine. “Emily, I think you would be the perfect Fool.” She held up a hand before her friend could reply. “In Tarot, the Fool begins the epic journey. The Fool is willing to take the chance, to go for it, to take risks and learn. Not everyone is so brave.”
Emily considered it. “I’m okay with that. I’d like to think I’m brave when I need to be.”
“Brave,” Rabbit poked Emily’s shoulder good-naturedly. “More like, impatient, doesn’t listen, rash. Hey, what’s the opposite of strategic?”
“Unprepared, impulsive, impetuous,” Templeton replied.
“And you are?” Emily sneered.
“It’s a spoiler, Ms. Swift,” he smirked. “If people want to know, they need to start reading the Bellerose Witchline series.”
“Lucie, I don’t want to pigeonhole you, but you’re the witch in the fairy tale, right?” Big Rabbit blushed. “I mean, a good one.”
Lucie winked. “Cackle, cackle.”
“We all know who the villain is,” Tara cut in, flinging a fake smile at Sebastian.
“The villain’s the hero of his own story.” Sebastian leaned back in his chair, lacing his fingers behind his head. “But yeah, if you need a bad guy to make everyone else feel all high and mighty, have at it.”
The others could only gape at him. Tara raised a hand. “Um, you have read the Door to Door series, right? You are… You’re a criminal, Sebastian. You’ve got blood all over your hands. There is nothing redeemable about you. Nothing.”
Sebastian’s jaw tightened. His angry eyes cut to Lucie, then back to Tara. “There’s always more to the story,” he mumbled before suddenly slamming his chair back down. He stood. “You know, you’re right. Nothing redeemable.” He turned and stalked out of the room.
No one said anything for a beat. Emily broke the silence. “The truth hurts.”
Lucie stared at the door Sebastian disappeared through. “There are many truths,” she said thoughtfully.
🧚This challenge runs from August 1 – 13! Stay tuned as tomorrow’s prompt is: Magic: Yes or No? Does your fairy tale have curses and spells, or even witches and sorcery? Or none of the above? (That post is now available – click here!)
