💗It’s Day 3 of the #TopsyTurvyRelationships writing challenge over on Instagram! Yesterday members of the D2D crew played The Newlywed Game. Today Lucie Bellerose returns home to find an after-Valentine’s Day party in full swing. Here we go!
🔔 Chime
Lucie Bellerose had just returned home and tossed her purse on the kitchen counter when the chime sounded. Frustrated, she balled her hands into fists. The toaster on the other side of the kitchen sparked and popped. “I hate you, Brown.”
She considered resisting, but she knew the only way to get through it was to go through it.
Resigned, she opened the door to the pantry and stepped back into…her kitchen?
“What now?” Lucie’s gaze ran over the crowd filling the room. Some faces she knew, but many were strangers.
“It’s the after-Valentine’s Day party,” said a guy to her right. He motioned for her to follow. “And you’re up.”
She studied the man. He looked familiar, like someone she’d met in passing. “Wait a minute. Do you know Sebastian?”
“Hmm. Sebastian? Can’t say that I do,” he replied. The two stood in front of the hall closet.
“Now what?”
“Seven minutes in heaven,” he grinned.
Lucie pulled a face. “With you? No offense, but no.”
He rolled his eyes. “With Templeton. Go on in. He’s waiting.”
“Templeton is in there?” Lucie pointed to the closed door. “Right. Totally believe it.”
“Have fun,” he laughed, then headed for the living room.
“Not in a million years,” Lucie muttered. “What is Sebastian up to?”
“Great party, Lucie!” Tara Parker-Jones came down the stairs. The two hugged.
“Have you seen Sebastian?”
Tara’s petite nose scrunched up. “Earlier. He kept saying he had no interest in asking me out. I kept telling him to stick any thought of a date with me up his –”
“I think he’s in this closet pretending to be Templeton.” Lucie glared at the door. “Want to do me a favor?”
“Maaaaybe?” Tara eyeballed the same door.
“Apparently we’re supposed to play seven minutes in heaven,” Lucie grimaced. “You pretend you’re me and go in. Mess with him.”
Tara looked down at her chest, then at Lucie’s. “I think he’s going to know.”
“I don’t care what you do,” Lucie ignored her. “Bite him for all I care. It might make him settle down for the rest of the Turvy.”
“Fine!” The house lights dimmed suddenly when someone plugged in the toaster. Taking advantage of the darker hall, Tara opened the closet door and slid inside.
Lucie slipped back into the kitchen, wearing a smug smile.
*10 minutes later*
Lucie chatted with Big Rabbit’s girlfriend over snacks. Her attention diverted when Sebastian door traveled into her kitchen. The man who tried to get her into the hall closet earlier greeted him, and the two put their heads together.
I *knew* it, Lucie thought.
Rabbit appeared at her side. “Well, that was unexpected.”
“What was?” Lucie pulled her eyes away from Sebastian and touched her best friend’s arm. “Hey, you. Did you just get here?”
“Nope. Arrived about 20 minutes ago.” He snagged a chip from her bowl. “But I think some sort of Turvy magic happened. I was dizzy and wound up in the hall closet. Next thing I knew, Tara was in there with me. I heard her say something about a ‘helluva surprise’ – and then she kissed me.” The tips of Rabbit’s ears grew red. “I kissed her back. For seven minutes.”
“You what?” Lucie’s mouth popped open.
“It’s the whole ‘what happens in a Turvy stays in a Turvy thing,’” he mumbled, shrugging.
Lucie whirled back around to locate Sebastian. Across the room, he sensed her stare. Glancing once at Rabbit, he smirked.
“Could’ve been you,” Sebastian mouthed at Lucie before toasting his favorite wayward witch with a glass of wine.
