🎀 It’s Day 4 of the #12DaysOfTurvy mini writing challenge over on Instagram! Yesterday Rabbit and Lucie were caught whispering about a secret. Today Tara reveals a “quirky tradition” – and Sebastian makes fun. Here we go!
Congress elder Loren Heatherworth and his wife Michelle were at the door with a bag of holiday cheer.
Lucie welcomed them into her kitchen after asking Rabbit to monitor the chaos in the living room.
Tara sat alone halfway up the stairs leading to the second floor. She sipped her liquor-laced eggnog and listened to the drama unfolding in the other room.
Sebastian leaned against the door jamb between the living room and entryway. Sensing Tara’s scrutiny, he turned, peering up at the petite blonde and earning a dirty look. He grinned, swiping the top hat from the hall table and sitting on the third stair from the bottom. He held it up so Tara could see inside.
“Pick an envelope, bookworm,” Sebastian directed.
“We’re still playing this stupid game?” Her nose wrinkled.
A mischievous glint appeared in his eyes. “I think you and I are playing several games.”
“You wish,” Tara scowled, reaching into the top hat. After opening an envelope, she read the prompt aloud. “Quirky Traditions.”
“Quirky?” Sebastian repeated. He set the top hat on the stairs between them. “Well, what’ve you got?”
“I don’t know.” She paused. “I guess you could count watching The Muppet Christmas Carol movie. The independent theater in Kincaid plays it every December. I go by myself. I like the music.”
Sebastian’s upper lip curled back. “You’re into puppets?”
“They’re *Muppets* and yes, I’m a fan.” Tara’s frown was overshadowed by her reddening cheeks.
“That’s kind of lame.” Sebastian rested his head against the wall. “I expected more from you, bookworm.”
“You know, you really are a b*stard, Sebastian.” Tara grabbed the top hat and stood. “I don’t know why Lucie tolerates you. Move.”
Sebastian slid his long legs aside so she could pass. As she did, she smacked the top hat into the side of his head. Laughing, he watched as she disappeared around the corner, making a beeline for the kitchen. Damn, he liked her.
If life wasn’t so complicated…
