🗣️ It’s Day 4 of the #TopsyTurvyWhatsMyLine writing challenge! Yesterday Emily rode the roller coaster while another character joined the Turvy… 😈 Today’s dialogue prompt is: “Why didn’t you tell me you were going to be there?”
Here we go!
Why didn’t you tell me you were going to be there? Lucie texted into the network phone Rabbit had given her on the sly. She waited, chewing on her bottom lip.
Nothing.
She tapped another message into the small device: I would’ve waited if I’d known you were interested in bumper cars – but come on. You? Bumper cars? Not exactly your style.
Nothing.
Lucie’s mouth pressed into a thin line. Her thumbs beat the next two questions into the keyboard: Do you want to meet up somewhere? How about the Haunted House?
Nothing.
Another message punched into the phone with a fingertip and sent: Templeton, I know Rabbit lent you a network phone. I can see that you’re reading these messages.
Sighing, she looked up from the screen just in time to see Big Rabbit approach carrying something unexpected in his arms…
…Sebastian sneered as he strolled past the row of carnival food stands, rolling his eyes at menus touting deep-fried sandwich cookies, giant ice cream flurries, and chocolate-covered bananas. Still, he hesitated when he caught the scent of burnt vanilla floating on the afternoon breeze. The corners of his mouth turned up and he surveyed the grounds. Where was she? Ah! There she was… his favorite wayward witch. He pulled a ticket from the inside pocket of his jacket.
“Hey!” He called out to a carnival worker picking up trash with a plastic grabber tool. The man paused. Sebastian handed him a ticket and several rolled bills before pointing across the fairway. “See the redhead in blue by the idiot with the chicken? Go give her this.”
The worker thumbed through the pile of bills and grinned. “You got it, man.” He spun in the direction of the red-haired woman and the mountain of muscle she stood beside.
Sebastian watched for a beat before he edged back into the crowd. He paused, pursing his lips as he glanced once more at a menu. Hot vanilla funnel cake fries? Tempting. Maybe he was hungry for something sweet after all.
🗣️ Oh, dear… Drama!
This mini challenge runs from June 21 – 27! Stay tuned as tomorrow the dialogue prompt is: “Why are you holding a chicken?” (That post is now available. Click here!)
