📚It’s Day 5 of the #TurvyTruthOrDare Instagram writing challenge! Yesterday Tara listed her crushes. Today Sebastian is challenged in a Dare – and rescued when things get a little scary. Here we go!
“Alright,” Tara said. “Who has day 5?”
“Right here.” Sebastian held up his slip. “Show me what you got, bookworm.”
“Since you’re such a ‘Big Baddie Sebastian’ –” Tara air quoted, “– pick from the Dare pile.”
Sebastian swiped a card from the deck and read it aloud. “Face your biggest fear.” He tossed the Dare card on the poker table. “I’m not afraid of anything. Who’s up next?”
“That so?” Templeton wore a thin smile. “Not even after accidentally getting locked overnight in the school’s basement? What were you, 16? You couldn’t door travel then. Pretty black down there. Bunch of rats crawling all over. I heard you were in the middle of a pathetic little meltdown when they found you. Didn’t you sleep with a nightlight after that? You don’t do well when you’re trapped alone in the dark, do you?”
Rabbit’s gaze flicked to Big Rabbit and he gave his head a small nod. Big Rabbit drifted across the room, moving closer to Sebastian.
“I bet this restaurant has a basement, and we know wherever there’s food in the city there’s bound to be rats,” Rabbit said. “How’d you like to revisit your childhood, Sebastian?”
Sebastian rolled his eyes and reached for the poker deck a second time, shuffling the cards. Lucie noticed his hands were shaking.
Big Rabbit stood directly behind Sebastian. “Let’s find out if Templeton’s story is true. How does ‘Big Baddie Sebastian’ deal with being left in the dark? Whaddya think, Rabbit?”
“I’m for testing it.” Rabbit’s eyes glittered black. He took a step forward.
“That’s enough. I’m getting tired of this game.” Lucie abandoned the couch, pushing past Rabbit. “Leave him alone.”
Templeton’s eyes narrowed.
Lucie crossed to the poker table and turned over the top Truth card. “You’re doing Truth now, Sebastian. As hard as it is for you, try to tell the truth for once.”
Sebastian peered up at Lucie for a beat, studying her face before looking at the new card. “Admit a quirky like or dislike. Quirky?”
“Something you like that’s unusual,” Lucie said.
Sebastian’s lips curved into a sly smile. He sat back in his chair. “Quirky. Well, I do have a thing for making witches glow.”
Tune in tomorrow as Lucie finds herself in a difficult situation with the truth. (The post is now up! Read what happens with Lucie here.)
Readers – Not on Instagram?
That’s okay! I’ll be sharing my Instagram posts daily here on my blogsite AND daily on Facebook at Writer Tracy Brown so you can read them there, too. Make sure you check for a new story every day from March 31st through April 7th!
What’s This Mean for Door to Door Characters? I’ll be dropping Emily Swift, Lucie Bellerose, Templeton, and the rest of the crew into a story matching the Truth or Dare “prompt of the day” from the challenge.
If you ARE on Instagram, make sure you’re following me at https://www.instagram.com/WriterTracyBrown/ to see the posts there! But again, as long as you check out my blog list or my Writer Tracy Brown page every day, you can read all the short stories without Instagram. 🙂
