❄ It’s Day 6 of the #12DaysOfTurvy mini writing challenge over on Instagram! Yesterday tree decorating turned into a scuffle. Today the crew heads to the park for a snowball fight. Here we go!
At the edge of the park’s snow-covered field, Big Rabbit’s girlfriend laid out the rules. “Emily and Lucie are the team captains.” She handed a red bandana to each woman. “Pick your teams. I’ll referee and sideline anyone who gets out of line.”
Emily chose first. “Big Rabbit.”
“Seriously?” Tara pouted.
Lucie tugged on Rabbit’s arm. “You.”
“Tara.”
“David.”
“Flame.”
“Sebastian.”
The female Rabbit pointed to the right and left. “Emily, Big Rabbit, Tara, and Flame, 50 feet to the right. Lucie, Rabbit, David, and Sebastian, 50 feet to the left. You have 15 minutes to build your forts and arsenals. Bandanas get tucked in the snow on the front. First team to knock the other’s to the ground wins. No crossing the center line.”
“It’s not as easy as it sounds,” Rabbit told the others as they marched to the left. “Big Rabbit has a powerful arm.”
“So do I,” Sebastian retorted, looking over his shoulder at Flame.
“Start making snowballs,” Rabbit directed. “I’ll get the fort up.”
Fifteen minutes later, the teams started pelting each other with snowballs. Laughing, Lucie chucked one at Emily’s head.
Sebastian and Flame were more concerned with slinging snowballs at each other than aiming for the other team’s bandana.
Tara took aim at Sebastian and nailed him when he wasn’t looking. He turned, snowball in hand. He stepped across the center line.
“No!” Tara pointed at his feet.
“Better run, bookworm!”
Lucie watched as Sebastian slowly chased a shrieking Tara across the field. “Should we stop them?”
Big Rabbit’s girlfriend buried her hands into her jacket pockets. “Nah, they’re burning up energy.”
Sebastian’s next snowball hit Tara in the backside. She whirled around and charged. The two ran back across the field. Sebastian swiped the bandana from the front of the other team’s fort. He waved it at Tara. Cries of ‘cheater!’ were heard as Tara gave chase again.
Lucie shook her head, noting that Flame, David, and Emily were building a snowman. Big Rabbit hugged his girlfriend and mentioned getting cocoa.
Smiling, Rabbit crossed his arms. “This was a good idea.”
Lucie nodded. “Let’s hope it does the trick.”
