🧚 It’s Day 6 of the #FairyTaleMe22 writing challenge on Instagram! Yesterday, characters considered steampunk and sci-fi as fairy tale options. Today’s prompt: Who is your fairy tale companion?
After a quick break, the Door to Door crew returned to the game.
Emily was pleased to note Sebastian was still missing when they came back to the party room.
Rabbit picked up the clipboard again, reading the next fairy tale prompt aloud. “Who is your fairy tale sidekick? There’s a #Caturday hashtag included, so I think we choose an animal. Easy one for me. A big dog. Loyal, reliable.”
“Well, I have the three Furious Furballs, so it’s cats for me,” Emily shrugged, then frowned. “Although, maybe a bird – like a crow. That would be cool.”
“Well, being that I’m a witch… Everyone is going to assume I’d pick a cat,” Lucie said. On cue, Flame trotted around the edge of the open door. Lucie’s eyes tracked the naughty shapeshifter as he pranced across the floor. He flicked the tip of his orange tail and bounded up on Big Rabbit’s lap where he proceeded to rub the top of his kitty head against the square jaw of the gentle giant.
“Who’s the good kitty?” Big Rabbit cooed. Flame purred.
“Is it neutered yet?” Templeton’s upper lip pulled back. The purring stopped.
“Flame?” Lucie fixed him with a beady eye. “Perhaps we should have someone take you home. It’s not safe for ‘cats’ to be wandering the city.”
Flame pointed his backside toward Lucie.
“Oh, good. A walking hairball filthying up my restaurant,” Sebastian huffed as he returned from his sulk. “That shouldn’t violate any of the city’s health codes.”
Flame slipped out of Big Rabbit’s arms and jumped up on the table. He hissed at Sebastian, a line of fur raised down the length of his long back.
Without missing a beat, Sebastian leaned toward him and hissed back.
“Alright, that’s enough out of all of you,” Tara announced. She swept up Flame into her arms, cuddling him. “Come on, sweet kitty. You’re coming with me.”
Flame looked over Tara’s shoulder as she marched out of the room. Emily cocked her head to the side as she watched them go.
Did that cat just smile?
🧚This challenge runs from August 1 – 13! Stay tuned as tomorrow’s prompt asks: In your fairy tale, what song are you singing? (That post is now available – click here!)
