It’s day 6 of the #TopsyTurvyBookTour over on Instagram! Yesterday Emily tumbled into Dr. Seuss’ world. Today I’m taking my Door to Door characters into And Then There Were None. Here we go…
(This is a derivative work based on the original book by Agatha Christie.)
Emily rowed away from the shore, the shouts of the two Fringe members fading behind her.
The waves propelled her into a thick mist. Fear gripped her heart before the air abruptly cleared and the little dinghy glided forward, beaching itself gently on a new shoreline.
Climbing from the rowboat, Emily’s eyes darted up and down the beach. This was no tropical island with drink huts. No, she was somewhere cooler. From her vantage point, she could see a large house in the distance. With nowhere to hide on the beach, she made a beeline for the building.
The old house was quiet, its front door unlocked. Turning the handle and leaning in, Emily called out softly: “Rabbit? Are you in here? Templeton?” A hand on her shoulder gave her a start.
“I think I saw Templeton looking out of an upstairs window,” Rabbit said. He motioned for her to move through the doorway. “It’s too open out here. Let’s go in.”
The two crept inside. A bump upstairs caused them to still. “Templeton?” Emily whispered.
“Only one way to find out.” Rabbit pointed toward the stairs. They climbed to the second floor. Padding quietly down the hall, they peeked inside the rooms as they went. At the fourth door, they found Templeton.
“Close the door,” he snarled. He pointed to a tray on the nightstand. Ten figurines were displayed. Six laid on their sides. “There have been six murders. Let’s not be the next three.”
“How do you know?” Emily asked, frowning at the tray.
“We’re in an Agatha Christie novel.” Templeton crossed to the bedroom’s window. His eyes narrowed. “And I see a Fringe member sneaking up to the house. Hand me that clock.” He gestured across the room.
Emily snagged a bear-shaped marble clock from the bookshelf. She passed it to Templeton, tilting her head. “What do you want this for?”
Templeton swiped the clock from her hands and promptly heaved it out the window. His upper lip curled back as he looked down. “Problem solved.”
…stay tuned as tomorrow as Door to Door characters will be dropped into one of the Winnie the Pooh stories. 😀
