🗣️ It’s Day 7 – the final day – of the #TopsyTurvyWhatsMyLine writing challenge! Yesterday we had a guest from the Lucas Rathbone Mysteries pop on by the carnival. Today’s dialogue prompt is: “Did that man just walk through a wall?”
Here we go!
“Did that man just walk through a wall?” A teenager bumped into Lucie as she rounded a corner.
Lucie reached out to steady the girl. “It only looks that way because of the mirrors.”
“This is creepy.” The teen, along with her clones, groped her way past Lucie and turned right –or maybe left. All likenesses disappeared.
“Damn creepy,” muttered Lucie. Inching forward, she glided her fingertips over the mirrored wall. Disorientation set in.
Lucie paused, closing her eyes and grounding the frantic energy churning inside her body.
“Lost, wayward witch?” Sebastian breathed into her ear. He moved away as she spun around.
“Knock it off,” she warned the dozens of grinning Sebastians.
He pouted. “Don’t you want to play with me?”
“No.” Lucie watched as he easily weaved in and out of sight, the multiple Sebastians appearing and disappearing around her. The chaotic current coursing through his body served him well in places like this.
“Not even when I’m standing right next to you?” Sebastian lifted his hand, his fingers brushing her cheek.
She jerked away, smacking into another mirror and swearing.
Sebastian turned his eyes upward as a crowd of Templetons joined them. “The party’s over,” he sighed. He blew a kiss to Lucie and vanished around a corner.
Templeton’s many reflections glared at her. “He’s never far away. Do you keep him close on purpose?”
A room full of Lucies lifted their hands. “How long are we going to do this, Templeton?”
The Salesman backed away. Lucie pushed out a slip of energy to pinpoint which image was actually him and not a copy. She felt his corresponding energy respond immediately. Her gaze locked onto his.
“I know which one is the real Templeton,” she whispered.
He nodded. “You do.” His eyes focused on something she couldn’t see as he tugged on the edge of a mirror. Royal blue door travel energy rose around him as he opened the hidden door. He didn’t look up. “Maybe someday you’ll stop keeping secrets and I’ll know the real Lucie.”
In a blink, Templeton was gone.
🗣️ Oh, my heart! What is going on between those two?
