🧚 It’s Day 8 of the #FairyTaleMe22 writing challenge on Instagram! Yesterday, music played – or a song sung – during a fairy tale was discussed. Today’s prompt: What is your skill in the fairy tale? Archery? Weaving? A talented jester? Your pick!
Rabbit passed the clipboard to Emily. “Your turn to lead.”
“Next question,” she began. “In your fairy tale, what is your special skill? I suppose for Templeton and me it could be door travel since we’re both Salesmen. It’s sort of built right in.”
Sebastian cleared his throat. “Um, hello?”
Emily ignored the third Salesman. “But is that what the question is asking? Archery or weaving is different than door travel. They’re activities almost anyone could do, but you have to work at them to become skilled.”
“Door travel seems more like a power to me,” Lucie said. “You still must master it, but it’s an inherent power all Salesmen have. Same for me with my innate ability for fire and light magic. It was there at birth. Tarot, however, is something I was taught. I’m a skilled diviner because of the time and effort I put into learning it.”
“I’m a little worried I don’t have any skills,” Emily laughed.
Templeton snorted.
“Okay, big shot,” Emily rolled her eyes. “If we take door travel out of the equation, what’s your special skill?”
“I am a master of many things,” he smiled thinly. His pale blue eyes shimmered.
“Yeah, like romance,” Emily muttered, glancing at Lucie.
Templeton scowled, the faint color in his irises fading away.
“I love to cook,” Big Rabbit chimed in. “And bake.”
“I’ve had your pancakes,” Emily nodded. “I’m for it.” She turned to Rabbit. “Hacking into things?”
“Why I’d never…” He grinned. “But seriously, the network’s full of skilled Rabbits who’ve mastered all areas of technology. I guess for me it would be…” His voice trailed off.
“Leadership.” Templeton finished. He abandoned the ‘Matar Daily’ and retrieved the clipboard from Emily. “How many more of these do we have to go through?”
Tara appeared in the doorway. “Um, I have good and bad news. The bad news is that I lost your cat, Lucie.” She turned to Sebastian. “The good news is that you’ve got to go. You’re wanted in the kitchen. Some naked guy is wrapped in an apron and nosing around the daily catch.”
Lucie face palmed.
“I’m going to kill that little –” Sebastian snarled as he left the party room.
🧚This challenge runs from August 1 – 13! Stay tuned as tomorrow’s prompt asks: Rapunzel had her hair; Cinderella had her kindness. What sets YOU apart? (That post is now available here!)
