💗It’s Day 8 of the #TopsyTurvyRelationships writing challenge over on Instagram! Yesterday Emily and Templeton were whisked back in time to a pivotal scene in Doors Wide Open. Today Tara Parker-Jones meets her blind date. 😈 Here we go!
Tara Parker-Jones gazed out the window as her fingers spun a glass of Pinot Grigio in a circle. What possessed her to let Brown set her up on a blind date?
🔔 Chime
Annoyed, she waited for the Turvy spell to compel her to seek a door. When the compulsion never came, she relaxed. Take that, Brown!
“Well, well, well.” A man behind her gloated.
Turning, she looked up. “You know what, Sebastian? Your voice sounds like a smirk looks.”
He laughed, pulling out the chair across from her and sitting. “How’s it going, bookworm?”
Tara crossed her arms. “I’m waiting for a date. Leave.”
“Really? Huh.” Sebastian picked up her glass of wine and took a sip before she could stop him. He closed his eyes, grimacing. “This is horrible. I’ll order us a better bottle.”
Her eyes bugged out of her head. “Who do you think you –?”
“Your date.” Sebastian pulled a folded note from his pants pocket and tossed it on the table. “This was delivered to me three minutes before the 🔔chime.”
Tara read it aloud. “Sebastian: You’re going on a blind date. For the love of god, don’t be a d*ck. Regards, T.L. Brown.”
Sebastian gestured toward the wine list while he spoke with the sommelier. Tara studied him. His outfit was trademark Sebastian: a long-sleeved fitted shirt in white and a pair of low-rise bootcut jeans. He’d run product through his wild shaggy cut. After he finished ordering, he gave her a sexy smile.
“We’re not friends,” she told him.
“No, we’re not,” he agreed, folding his arms and leaning his elbows on the table. “But we’re in a Turvy. We can be whatever we want.”
“And what is it you want to be, Sebastian?” Tara wasn’t intimidated by the man. She leaned forward, too.
He dropped his gaze and shrugged. “I don’t know.”
“There’s your problem.” Dismissing him, Tara picked up a menu and scanned it. “Whether it’s in a Turvy, or on-page in one of Brown’s books, at some point you’ll need to decide on what kind of man you’re going to be.”
He watched her push a lock of fair hair behind an ear. Damn, she was cute. “I’ll think about it. In the meantime, what will the lady be having for dinner this evening?”
