🎁 It’s Day 9 of the #12DaysOfTurvy mini writing challenge over on Instagram! Yesterday Templeton whisked Lucie away and Sebastian baited Emily. Today Lucie receives a unique gift. Here we go!
Door traveling with Templeton was a powerful experience, but it felt natural.
His energy blended seamlessly into Lucie’s, guiding her in a blink from one place to another. She stepped into a room she’d visited only once before –a private space at his estate where he planned and worked his magic.
She traced a path she’d made in unhappier times, her fingers coasting lightly over the worn spines of books nestled into a wall of shelves. “I was here before, you know. When you were…”
“I know.” Templeton remained impassive. The confession didn’t seem to bother him. “I sensed your signature the moment I entered. Mr. Archie explained –not that he needed to do so.”
Lucie nodded toward the center of the room where Templeton’s standing desk waited. “A little messier than I remembered,” she teased. “What are you working on?”
Templeton’s pale blue eyes shimmered. “A witchball.”
“Really?” Lucie approached the desk, then paused. “May I?”
He nodded, an unusual flash of excitement rushing over his face. “Please.”
Lucie leaned against the edge of the desk, scanning Templeton’s notes. The spell was complex, but the design was elegant. It was yet unfinished, and he’d written several possible methods for completing the magical work. “But you’re not a witch, Templeton. How do you plan to use it once you’ve created it?”
He joined her, picking up one of the pages he’d written and studying it. “It doesn’t matter what I am. I will still be able to use it.”
Lucie looked up. “Maybe. But why are you –”
“I brought you here for a different reason,” he interrupted. “I have a gift for you.” Templeton retrieved a wooden box from a cupboard. He hesitated, then handed it to Lucie. “I had these made for you, then I spelled them.”
Inside was a new deck of Tarot. Lucie set the box on the desk and turned through the hand-painted cards. “These are beautiful,” she whispered. “And they’re spelled? Why?”
“Look closer,” he encouraged.
Lucie fanned the cards, choosing the World. Two figures stood close. “Oh…it’s us.”
Templeton leaned closer and spoke softly into her ear. “If you ever need me and I’m not here, you can find a part of me in these cards.”
