This is NOT my typical #IndieFeatureFriday post because today’s praise highlights a novella that isn’t necessarily available to a broad readership. But if it were still available (well, maybe it is in this secret place đ), I’d give đđđđđ five holy-hell-this-blows-me-away stars to unconventional romance author Jennifer Brasington-Crowley (on Instagram as @BrasingtonBooks) for her novella, A Disturbance in the Force.
A Disturbance in the Force centers on a woman’s fascination with Darth Vader and a celebrity comic book artist she meets (randomly) at a bar. They truly connect, and it’s sort of a fantasy come true for main character Jennifer. (Not to be confused with the author. Ahem.) But imagine meeting someone who gets you completely: all your awkwardness, your weirdness, your craziness, your unsteadiness, your frailty â and is captivated by you anyway.
The story arc moves the reader giddily forward â we’re cheering for Jennifer. Go for it! Drop your baggage and just…go for it! Grab that lightsaber!
Then Jennifer â the author â reveals a brilliant screech-to-a-halt twist. Oh.
And there it is. Brasington-Crowley *knows* how to dig down deep into what hurts and what drives people. She knows how to lift readers up, and she’s not afraid to pull the rug out from under us. And she’ll explore crazy right alongside the reader.
But she also delivers hope when everything around us (and her characters) grows dark. Even if it’s only a pinpoint of light, it’s there.
I’m a huge fan of Brasington-Crowley’s novels. Please check out the image below. The paperbacks are from her Stillwaters Series. All of these books pictured are 5-star reads. Cayman Island is in my top 10 favorite books of all time.
Because ultimately Brasington-Crowley knows how to get us to dig down deep inside ourselves. And sometimes, that’s hard to accept. But that’s what brilliant artists, like Brasington-Crowley, do.

You can find all of her books at: https://www.amazon.com/stores/author/B00E6XN608/allbooks
I recommend that you start with Stillwaters, book one in the Stillwaters Series. (But the Raven Song Series is excellent, too!)
